The authors report on the results of liver scanning which was performed on 45 inpatients of the General Surgery Service of the Taegu Presbyterian Hospital during the 7 month period from Feb. 1, 1967 through Aug. 31, 1967.
Colloidal gold 198 was used for the scanning. The series of cases included patients with stomach cancer, liver abscess, bilary tract disease, colon cancer and other diseases.
In 12 cases the scanographic findings were not corroborated since they were not operated upon.
In 28 (84%) of the remaining 33 cases, the scanographic findings were confirmed by surgery. In the remaining 5 cases, 4 tests (12%) turned out to be false negative and 1 test (4%) false positive.
According to the authors experience, the accuracy of liver scanning was 84%.
